Great Mind-Skin Display by Special Projects




MOST ALERTS ARE DIGITAL, NOT PHYSICAL
This project looks at ways of making smartphone alerts and notifications richer, more personal and less binary. We researched real life interruptions from the beginning, to see if we could create concepts for a new protocol taking advantage of the physical and digital.
SkinDisplay, makes the interaction with the phone more discrete and subtle, by allowing the receiver to read information without having to look at the phone, magically, just by touching the device.
A raised message will appear on the back of the phone, containing the caller’s identity, importance and reason for the call. This short message will be transferred through pressure: the receiver will just need to press the phone between their fingers and the message will be imprinted on their hand.
The receiver will then be able to read the message on their skin and also erase it, easily, by rubbing their fingers together.

This particular design is what i think really an innovative one, it sort of reshape the digital world notification back into an anolog form,  its a unusual approach indeed and I wander how acceptable is this to the public, I mean to imprint messages onto skin sounds but weird and may cause some side effects as people will afraid(which i dont worry too much because Im pretty sure it wont, but who knew?) Regardless the acceptability to the public, the idea itself is great, everything digital we see the information on a screen today, yet it is really refreshing to see a design that is made to change the way of how digital gadgets usually works.

Acrylic juggling balls


Since the wooden spheres dont work, I now have to find another material for my cradle, lucky enough i found this awesome clear juggling balls , its a great material for bouncing too, you believe how strong it is, people always afraid to drop it on the ground and break it, but I have dropped those balls for thousand times and there is no a single crack, just to show you how tough the material is.

Great Mind-Hexi Responsive Wall by thibausid

This interaction Design is really one of my favourite, I mean I love things that have great use and make life easier, but what I love the most is this sort of sculptures or products that offers nothing more than offering fun and interactive experiences.

Wooden Sphere

So I tested the wooden sphere, and has proved that it does not make a good material for newtons cradle, so i tried one more thing, I stick a pieces of stainless steel into the centre of the ball, hopefully by making the centre pole of the sphere harden I can get the result i want, but it still doesn't work, and I have came out a theory why it doesn't.

So as you can see the stainless steel and wood are two very different material, it will waste a lot of energy on transferring between two materials, another reason, i think is that the energy is actually going through the entire sphere, so the wooden part of the ball is still absorbing energies. so...yea it just wont happen with wooden sphere.

Tests with spheres


Over christmas holiday, I had this Idea of making giant newtons cradle, I didnt think i would go for this idea, but after seeing the mythbuster clips when they were doing experiments with hug newtons cradle, I have this impulse of making it my own, since the swinging sticks is not going to happen.
 So after holiday, I started testing the potential sphere material I can get my hands one and wont not costs me too much, I started with the wooden balls, which....does not work so greatly.

wood in terms of hardness is really soft, therefore there is not enough energy is transferred to the end to end, which is failure basically, but at least i tested it~

Great Mind-Sensory Fiction




Sensory fiction is about new ways of experiencing and creating stories.
Traditionally, fiction creates and induces emotions and empathy through words and images.  By using a combination of networked sensors and actuators, the Sensory Fiction author is provided with new means of conveying plot, mood, and emotion while still allowing space for the reader’s imagination. These tools can be wielded to create an immersive storytelling experience tailored to the reader.
To explore this idea, we created a connected book and wearable. The ‘augmented’ book portrays the scenery and sets the mood, and the wearable allows the reader to experience the protagonist’s physiological emotions.
The book cover animates to reflect the book’s changing atmosphere, while certain passages trigger vibration patterns.
Changes in the protagonist’s emotional or physical state triggers discrete feedback in the wearable, whether by changing the heartbeat rate, creating constriction through air pressure bags, or causing localized temperature fluctuations.
